Nestled between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens sits the developing neighborhood of Gowanus–an area once known mostly for its polluted canal and industrial warehouses but now gaining recognition for its mixture of classic rowhouses, cool art galleries, trendy bars, and funky music venues. Word on the street is that it’s even on track to become a mini Copenhagen! And if you’re looking for a little piece of Denmark in your life, you can now do that–without hopping on a plane or breaking the bank!
The doors have officially opened for an affordable housing lottery at 251 Douglass Street, the latest phase of the sprawling four-building development known as Gowanus Wharf.

Industrial Meets Modern
Developed by Charney Companies and Tavros Capital, the new 15-story rental, named Douglass Port, sits directly along the Gowanus Canal.
It’s just one piece of the much larger Gowanus Wharf, a four-building development set to deliver 1,000 new residences, modern amenities, and a public waterfront esplanade to the neighborhood.
The location is well connected, with easy access to the R train at Union Street, along with the B37 and B103 bus lines. Atlantic Terminal–offering access to multiple subway lines and the LIRR–is also within about a 20-minute walk.
