If you don’t already have your tickets to the Yayoi Kusama exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden, here’s your second chance to see more incredible work by the artist in NYC!
On June 17th, David Zwirner will exhibit new My Eternal Soul paintings by Yayoi Kusama. It is part of a three city tour presented by Victoria Miro, David Zwirner, and Ota Fine Arts of the paintings from London, to New York, and Tokyo.
First commenced back in 2009, My Eternal Soul series has been worked on “in a more intimate format since 2019” and will showcase new examples of the work this summer.
“At once bold and intensely detailed and conveying extraordinary vitality, these works are joyfully improvisatory, fluid and highly instinctual,” shared a recent press release. The paintings display abstract and figurative impressions of the world, with Kusama’s signature dots. “Their use of minute details and repetition—in terms of both shapes and brushwork—reflects the history of the obsessive gesture within Kusama’s practice, positioning this body of work as an important link between her past and present.”
Last April, Kusama shared a poem of hope and resilience for a brighter future “in the midst of this historic menace.” An entire year later Kusama wants to share more of her personal work that has been created during such a monumental time in history such as these paintings.
Admission will be free but will require a reservation. More booking information will be shared in the coming weeks.
