Yayoi Kusama keeps giving us the news we want to hear! In addition to bringing her infinity rooms back to the David Zwiner Gallery in November, she will also be bringing her polka dot-covered work to the New York Botanical Garden with KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature.
The “multisensory presentation” is planned to arrive in NYC next spring, and will run from May 9, 2020 through November 1, 2020. The NY Botanical Garden will be the exhibit’s exclusive venue and is “designed to capture and illuminate the artist’s profound engagement with nature throughout the changing seasons from spring through fall,” as the garden’s announcement states.
KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature will be a massive exhibition spanning 250 acres of the NYBG’s landmark landscape and buildings featuring not only her signature polka dot sculptures, but also her famous mirror installations along with some of her nature-based paintings, collages, and botanical sketches. The sculptures on view will be of gorgeous colossal flora and the “monumental site-specific” Dancing Pumpkin (2020) sculpture! She will also have a horticultural showcase in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, which will be her first ever greenhouse installation.
Tickets will go on sale through the NYBG website beginning January 29 (with member pre-sale beginning January 15).
