A weekend getaway that will take you straight into the pages of a storybook!
Wings Castle is a bed and breakfast inside of a replica of a medieval castle right in the middle of the Hudson Valley in the town of Millbrook in Dutchess County, New York — and it’s located only 75 miles north of NYC.
The castle was created by NY artists Peter and Toni Ann Wing, who began building it back in 1970. Wing grew up on the dairy farm next door, which is now the Milbrook Winery (yes, a castle right next to a winery!), and he always dreamed of living in a castle. It took a whopping 47 years to complete, but was definitely worth the wait! Toni says it has become a “live-in art project.”
There are five different rooms to choose from at the castle B&B, complete with truly magical features like a moat swimming pool that goes underneath the castle, tons of medieval decor, and patios with the most incredible views.
Choose from the Annex Suite, with two private levels including a dining room and kitchen with a balcony overlooking the courtyard; the Dungeon Room, a room in the main castle with a private entrance from outside; the Chamber Room, also in the main castle with a private outside entrance; the Tower, on the upper level of the main castle; and the Cottage, an adorable fairytale cottage directly across the street from the main castle.
A complimentary continental breakfast is included each day of your stay.
The history buffs even have a museum on site filled with antique memorabilia and collectibles. Another fun fact? The castle was built using 80 percent recycled materials.
In addition to all the beautiful features on site and the winery next door, the charming village of Millbrook itself has a selection of wonderful restaurants, plus is full of antique shops.
In the new year you’ll even be able to visit and tour the castle without a stay, but right now due to COVID-19 concerns you will have to book a room in order to enjoy it. Not a bad requirement.
