Election Day is finally upon us, and everyone’s curious as to when the next President of the United States will be announced. That’s why we’re compiling all of your questions into one place.
When do the polls close on Election Day?
Though the polls opened for early voting in New York on October 26th, Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th, meaning your last chance to cast your ballot is today until the polls close. New York’s polls close at 9pm. However, poll closures vary by state.
When will all the votes be counted?
Though many states have already begun counting votes ahead of Election Day itself, swing states such as Wisconsin and Pennsylvania don’t begin counting their mail-in ballots until 7am on Election Day. This may cause a delay in election results as all ballots are accounted for.
When will the 2024 presidential election results be announced?
Though we’d all love for the waiting game to end tonight on Election Day, it is very likely no winner of the presidential election will be announced until a few days after. A delayed winner can result from various factors including the processing of mail-in and absentee ballots as mentioned before, recounts that can occur if the race is tight to verify accuracy, population density, and legal challenges.
When are presidential election results typically revealed?
Presidential election results are usually announced the night of Election Day or in the early hours the following day. For example, Trump’s presidency was announced at 2:30am the following morning in 2016, while Obama’s win was announced at 11pm on the night of Election Day in 2008 and 2011.
The 2020 presidential election was a little different, with Joe Biden’s victory being announced four days after Election Day. The delay was primarily from processing and counting time needed for mail-in ballots across significant swing states.
