After many complaints from park neighbors, a new curfew is set in place for WSP.
In recent weeks as the city continues to open up, more and more New Yorkers are taking to the streets and especially enjoying the parks.
However, after many complaints from neighbors surrounding Washington Square Park about late-night raucous and disorder, the NYPD along with NYC Parks have implemented a 10 p.m. curfew on weekends, according to Washington Square Park Conservancy.
Please note 📣 that in coordination with @NYPD6Pct, @NYCParks will close #WashingtonSquarePark at 10PM instead of Midnight for the next two weekends (Fri/Sat/Sun).
Dates include: 5/28, 5/29, 5/30, 6/4, 6/5, and 6/6 pic.twitter.com/NhmfLZ5MK2— Washington Square Park Conservancy (@WSPConservancy) May 28, 2021
As reported by CBS, residents around the area are claiming that the late night “parties” at WSP are getting out of hand. Perpetual trash is being left behind in the park, leaving the Parks Department maintenance crew working at full capacity to clean up the weekend messes.
The curfew will close the park two hours earlier than its normal time at midnight.
Though the curfew was set to continue this weekend, there is no official end date.
