The Fearless Girl statue on wall street has quickly become one of NYC’s most beloved pieces of public art so when a picture emerged of a suit-clad douche-bag pretending to hump the statue people were furious.
Architectural designer Alexis Kaloyanides took the picture on Thursday night, just a day after International Women’s Day, and posted it to Facebook and Instagram, with this caption:
“Almost as if out of central casting, some Wall Street finance broseph appeared and started humping the statue while his gross date rape-y friends laughed and cheered him on. He pretended to have sex with the image of a little girl. Douchebags like this are why we need feminism.”
The photo depicts a man feigning sex with the new statue that was created to highlight the pay disparity between men and women in the financial industry, and the lack of gender diversity on corporate boards. Check out the image below:
As of writing this article the image has been shared over 30k times on Facebook garnering comments like:
Whether you’re a tried and true feminist or not, this indecent act caught on camera highlights a disturbing misogynistic culture that is still present in Wall Street. Regardless of, and in defiance of, the culture that the statue was created to contrast, the fearless girl stands unperturbed by petty acts of chauvinism as she continues her face-off against the iconic wall street bull.
