New York Aquarium’s Ocean Wonders: Sharks! brings a staggering 18 species of sharks to NYC.
The aquarium’s unique exhibit features more than 115 marine species in total, with “sharks, rays, sea turtles, and thousands of schooling fish” brought in from New York’s local seascape. While Ocean Wonders: Sharks! initially debuted in early 2018 it’s remained a year-round attraction dedicated to teaching New Yorkers all about the world of sharks, the important role they play, and the threats they face.
Holding over 500,000 gallons of water, this interactive and immersive exhibit puts you nine inches away from the 18 species of sharks and various other marine life. The exhibit’s entrance features a 40-foot-long tunnel with vibrant coral reef and marine life all around you. The space in its entirety is a whopping 57,000-square-feet and three stories high, wrapped by a shimmer wall of over 30,000 tiles that will move with the force of the wind and glitter in the sunlight—reflecting the movement and shimmer of the ocean.
The new Ocean Wonders building is open the same hours as the rest of the aquarium, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. from Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sundays and Holidays.
