It’s no secret that we’ve been pitching an escape to Upstate NY’s Adirondacks region forever, but this summer might actually be the best chance you can get.
With the United States gearing up for its monumental 250th anniversary this year, towns and villages throughout the region are preparing for an epic series of Independence Day events this July to coincide with the nation’s semiquincentennial.
According to the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, the celebrations will range from single-day community gatherings to extended, multi-day festivals.
Here’s what to expect, why you need to go, and how to plan a trip this summer. 🇺🇸

A quintessential small town escape
Spending the holiday in these charming mountain towns is quite literally the quintessential American experience.
Visitors instantly become honorary locals as entire communities come together for traditional activities.
Expect town-wide BBQs, parades featuring classic cars and community organizations, and spectacular fireworks reflecting over crystal-clear lakes.
Several towns have planned enhanced or multi-day schedules just to mark the 250th anniversary in a big way.

High peaks and epic F-35 flyovers
The High Peaks and Northern Adirondacks are going all out for 2026.
Lake Placid will kick off its July 4 events with a jaw-dropping F-35 flyover conducted by the Vermont National Guard right over the mountains. The day also includes a parade filled with local Olympians, the annual Lake Placid Horse Show, the Star Spangled Ski Jump event, and fireworks over Mirror Lake.
Nearby in Saranac Lake, the schedule is heavily geared toward families with a children’s parade and a farmers market before their own evening fireworks over Lake Flower.
You can also head to Tupper Lake for a sunset concert, catch a parade in the town of Jay, or enjoy a massive community gathering at Marcy Field in Keene on July 3.

Multi-day festivals in the Lake Champlain region
History buffs and festival lovers are in for a serious treat in the eastern Adirondacks.
Ticonderoga is hosting the massive “Best 4th in the North” celebration spanning from July 2 to July 5.
Separately, Fort Ticonderoga will hold a historically focused three-day immersive event that dives deep into the 250th anniversary.
Over in Essex, expect a huge two-day party on July 3 and 4 featuring a fun run, a festive boat parade, and incredible fireworks over Lake Champlain.
Meanwhile, Westport is also joining the fun with a full day of activities on July 4 concluding with fireworks right at the beach.

Central and Southern Adirondack celebrations
The celebrations in Hamilton County and the Adirondack Hub area are just as spectacular.
The town of Inlet is matching Lake Placid with its very own F-35 flyover on July 4 alongside games and fireworks over Fourth Lake.
Speculator has planned a massive two-day event, while Long Lake is bringing the fun with hilarious bed races, live music, and fireworks at the town beach.
Over in the Adirondack Hub, Schroon Lake will hold its 70th annual parade.
You can also grab a bite at the 60th Annual Chicken BBQ in Newcomb or check out the town-wide garage sales during the 37th Annual Minerva Day.
