We’ve all been there, either too distracted or too drunk, and left something behind in an Uber. And if you’ve never known how to retrieve those items or you’re simply curious what other things people have left behind, Uber’s now giving you the chance to find out.
Uber is hosting its first-ever Lost & Found Pop-Up in NYC on Tuesday, April 8th from 11am to 4pm. Though the company publishes an annual Lost & Found Index to track the most surprising and most common items left behind, the pop-up will give people the opportunity to experience the items in-person and on display.
According to Uber, some pretty weird things have been left in backseats, from mannequin heads to live lobsters! In the 2024 Index, a frontal hair toupee, two containers with spiders, police-grade handcuffs and Benihana garlic butter were among just some of the weirdest forgotten items.
Someone once left behind 175 cheeseburgers last year. Thus, Uber is commemorating such a moment by giving out Shake Shack burgers until supplies last from 12pm to 3pm during the pop-up.
In addition to seeing the most comical items left behind, attendees will finally learn how to get back their lost items. Of course, you can also explore your options online, depending on whether you can or cannot contact your driver.
Uber clarifies on its website:
We do our best to facilitate the return of lost items and help you connect with your driver. However, it is important to note that drivers are independent contractors, and hence, Uber and drivers do not bear responsibility for an item left in the vehicle after a trip ends.
The entire Lost & Found Pop-Up is free and open to the public. Until it’s time, you can explore “The 2024 Uber Lost & Found.” It also discloses the most “forgetful” cities, trends, most forgetful days and times (did you know January 21st was the most forgetful day of the year?) and the most common items lost.
