The creative neighborhood that is Greenpoint is home to many eclectic shops and delicious restaurants, but one thing that’s been absent from the neighborhood is a nightclub–though that may soon be changing.
As reported by Greenpointers, two new nightclubs are looking not only to set down roots in Greenpoint, but to do so right across the street from each other on Franklin Street.
Global nightlife pioneer Tao Hospitality Group plans to open at 25 Franklin Street, formerly the home of ArtsDistrict Brooklyn, submitting a liquor license application that proposed remaining open until 4 am and having a 1,000 person capacity.
A second nightclub submitted a liquor license application at 1 Meserole Avenue, formerly Northern Territory, under the name of Deuces. Greenpointers writes that a Deuces representative says the space will serve as a community center by day, hosting kids’ after-school programming, and dance club by night.
Deuces also proposed remaining open until 4 am though with a much smaller capacity of 300 people.
Though the two nightclubs will be housed across the street from each other they won’t be affiliated.
Greenpointers writes that the two developers presented their plans at a Brooklyn Community Board 1 meeting on Tuesday, May 14th. CB1 reportedly was not impressed by either proposal.
Next steps involve CB1 deciding if they’re going to approve the liquor licenses, though New York State’s Liquor Authority gets the final call.
