The brand new East Village Tavern (EVT) is being transformed into The Grinch’s “Whoville” throughout December with Dr. Seuss-esque decor and cocktails inspired by the beloved book and movie!
“Grinchy Tavern” took over the East Village Tavern (EVT) space with boozy themed-cocktails and Whoville-inspired décor this past Friday, November 29. The bar’s holiday pop-up will open daily at 4pm and closes Sunday through Thursday at midnight and Friday and Saturday at 2am. It will run through the remainder of the season.
Scenes of the Grinch dressed as Santa stealing presents from under the Christmas tree decorate the walls, along with giant Christmas light bulbs, a canvas backdrop of a snowy day in Whoville, an upside-down Christmas tree, a fireplace, and appearances from miniature versions of Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch’s dog Max.
Led by owner Stephen Choi, cocktails have been created by his partner Christine Tripi and bartender Alexandra Sedhegian. These include boozy holiday beverages like an Apple Pie Old Fashioned with whiskey and spice, Gingerbread White Russian made with vanilla vodka, Kahlua, and a touch of cream, Elfin Eggnog spiked with Captain Morgan spiced rum and Grinchhopper with crème de cacao, green creme de menthe and heavy cream. Complementary red and green jello shots will be served daily at the top of every hour.
Grinchy Tavern is located at 158 Loisaida Avenue on the corner of 10th Street and Avenue C. Just the kind of holiday decor to make your heart grow three sizes!
