Before “Hamilton,” Lin-Manuel Miranda created the Broadway hit “In The Heights,” which was nominated for 13 Tony Awards.
The musical is being made into a movie coming out this summer, and more trailers have just been released!
“In The Heights” tells the stories of multiple characters living in the NYC neighborhood of Washington Heights, following their hopes, dreams and realizations through innovative musical numbers over a three-day span. Miranda wrote the musical when he was only a freshman in college. The motion picture was originally supposed to be released in summer of 2020, but got pushed back due to COVID-19.
Now, it will be in theaters (and on HBO Max) starting June 18, 2021.
There’s Usnavi, a bodega owner who’s in love with the girl working in the beauty salon next door and who dreams of returning to his home of the Dominican Republic. And Nina, who comes back to the neighborhood after her freshman year of college with news for her hard-working parents.
The score is full of spirited hip-hop, salsa, merengue and soul numbers, and the movie is being directed by Jon M. Chu, who helmed the highly successful “Crazy Rich Asians.”
Watching the trailers below will surely get you in the dancing mood, and now we only have a few more months left until we can see the whole thing!
