New Yorkers were left bummed after NYC’s only Trader Joe’s wine store put a cork in it–literally–after closing unexpectedly back in August 2022, marking the end of an era for those looking to shop for their booze on a budget. And though we had our hopes up this past January that there was a chance they would reopen, our bubbles have been bursted once again.
According to EV Grieve, the budget grocery chain is instead set to open a Trader Joe’s Pronto store at the former wine shop location.
Trader Joe’s Pronto is a grab-pay-and-go concept that allows shoppers to grab things they need in a hurry–such as sandwiches, salads, soups, chips, cut up fruit, and beverages–without having to wait in long lines alongside people with overflowing grocery carts.
A company spokesperson told EVG:
Trader Joe’s Pronto is a one-of-a-kind extension of our store in Union Square. This additional space allows us to carry more of the products our customers in this neighborhood purchase daily.
The Pronto store, which will be located at 138 E. 14th Street, will be the first of its kind. The chain has no plans to open additional locations at this time.
The Village Sun writes that according to Susuky Zambrano, a manager at the next-door Trader Joe’s market, the Trader Joe’s Pronto shop will have its grand opening today, Tuesday March 26th. It will be open daily 10 am to 8 pm.
