A mortgage? In NYC? Really! StreetEasy just unveiled the top 10 neighborhoods for buyers in the Big Apple, so if you’re weighing the option of homeownership, now’s the time to do your research.
At the beginning of the year, the real estate platform shared the top neighborhoods to watch in 2025 — shoutout to Queens for taking home the gold — but the findings were according to rental prices. Consider this follow-up for the New Yorkers who are looking to set up more permanent roots.
The top 10 neighborhoods for buyers in NYC
The winning neighborhoods of the study are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, with median asking prices starting at $620,000 and reaching $1.95 million. StreetEasy perused data from January and February of this year, honing in on neighborhoods that saw the most significant increases in inventory and declines in median asking prices compared to 2024.
So, are you ready for the results? Drumroll, please…
- Boreum Hill, Brooklyn
- Long Island City, Queens
- Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn
- Gramercy Park, Manhattan
- Chelsea, Manhattan
- Bensonhurst, Brooklyn
- Brighton Beach, Brooklyn
- Woodside, Queens
- Dyker Heights, Brooklyn
- Park Slope, Brooklyn
Have a look at the company’s research. Each neighborhood’s median asking price and year-over-year change are revealed in the chart below. Woodside, Queens, comes with the most affordable median asking price of $620,000 and Chelsea clocks in at the highest with a hefty $1.95 million.
Woodside, which StreetEasy says anchors the micro-neighborhood of Little Manila, offers plenty of diversity in cultures and home types, with multifamily houses, co-ops, and modern condos all on the market. Meanwhile, Park Slope — adored for its gorgeous brownstones and proximity to Prospect Park — is seeing home prices (and rental prices) decreasing, in a shock to all. (Though the median asking price still comes in at a whopping $1.7 million.)
Like other StreetEasy findings, this recent reveal leaves out the Bronx and Staten Island. Perhaps the next batch of reveals will include all of the boroughs.
If homeownership in NYC still feels daunting, explore the city’s HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program, which gives first-time buyers $100,000 toward their first place. (Hey, that ain’t bad!) For more on the findings from StreetEasy, visit its website.
