Last week New Yorkers enjoyed a short reprieve from the summer heat with temperatures in the cool 70s. However, the comfortable breeziness was short lived and NYC is expecting a brutal heat wave this week.
If you were outside at all today you probably noticed the insane heat and humidity. According to the National Weather Service, the heat index values during the next few days can potentially reach up to 104 degrees. From today through Wednesday, temperatures will be in the 90s, but with the humidity will climb into what will feel like the triple digits.
A heat advisory has been released by NWS, as these temperatures are considered dangerously high—especially for those at risk of heat related illnesses, such as the elderly and young children.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, August 28) the weather forecast indicates it will be sunny with a high of 93, with heat index values as high as 100. As for Wednesday, it is expected to be sunny with a high of 96, with heat index values as high as 101. So if you can, try to stay indoors and keep outdoor activity minimal.
With rainfall expected on Thursday, temperatures are forecasted to drop into the 70s on Friday and through Labor Day weekend.
