Ask a New Yorker what we think about ourselves and you’ll get the same answer every time: obviously, we’re the best. Ask a tourist? They’ll probably say we’re rude—though, fun fact, we’re not even the rudest city in America (our friends over in Miami apparently are!).
But now we finally know what the rest of the country really thinks of us thanks to a new survey by CanadaCasino. Spoiler alert: it’s not all “I ❤️ NY.”
The study polled 2,000 Americans across more than 15 states and revealed exactly how people see us—and, let’s just say, they didn’t hold back.
According to the results, Americans think New Yorkers are arrogant, rude, and snobby. (Cute.) But they also admit we’re progressive and adventurous, which honestly sounds like a Tinder bio we’d actually swipe right on, so that counts for something, right?
And how do we describe ourselves? Oh, we know we’re smart. We know we’re cool. And yes, we’ll happily take progressive too. Basically, we’re our own hype men.
That said, we’re not completely delusional, and we do possess self awareness—that’s to say we also admit we can be rude and arrogant sometimes. But we’d call ourselves adventurous, friendly, and attractive before that, thank you very much. Gotta be your own biggest cheerleader, right?
So yeah, America, we heard you. You think we’re cocky. But you also think we’re hot, cool, and smart. Sounds about right.
