Another jukebox musical is on its way to New York City, and this one is all about the life of Tina Turner.
TINA: The Tina Turner Musical will open on Broadway next month after a successful run in London and Germany. The bio-musical follows the life and career of the rock ’n’ roll icon, and was created in collaboration with Tina Turner. Written by Katori Hall, Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the TINA production will be directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony van Laast. Playing the role of Turner herself will be Tony nominee Adrienne Warren, who has already been playing the role thus far. In a statement released late last year, Turner said:
“[Adrienne] has given it everything she’s got, she has poured her soul into it, and she deserves every success. I am thrilled she will be reprising her role in New York, and I cannot wait to see her on that Broadway stage on Opening Night.”
And neither can we! It was announced earlier this year that the production of TINA will take place at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre and the show will officially begin its Broadway run on November 7—but they’re currently in previews so you can catch a first glimpse before opening night!
Until then, here’s a look at one of the songs from the musical as sung by Warren, “River Deep Mountain High,” as well as the musical’s official trailer:
