Mark your calendars: one of Brooklyn’s most engaging cultural experiences of the year is right around the corner.
The Other Art Fair, presented by Saatchi Art, returns to Brooklyn ahead of Mother’s Day weekend from May 8th to 11th for its 15th iteration, bringing 125 local artists along for the ride. Unlike a typical gallery presentation, this immersive showcase at ZeroSpace Brooklyn in Park Slope celebrates attainable artwork and invites guests to dabble in the creative process themselves, from flower-making course with Summer Space Studio to participating in Joe Kraft’s interactive art scavenger hunt and allowing Anna Marie Tendler to take your portrait amidst a lush tableau. (Yes, please!)
“Our mission is to make the art world more accessible and inclusive while showcasing boundary-pushing artwork and immersive experiences that challenge conventions,” says Emily-Jean Alexander, fair director of The Other Art Fair, Brooklyn & Chicago. “This edition is a testament to the power of creative expression and the vibrant Brooklyn community that makes this possible.”
Though it goes without saying, you should probably make space in your apartment for a few new pieces.
Who you’ll see at The Other Art Fair
With a commitment to spotlighting emerging artists, the annual event also promotes a wide variety of media to explore, including documentary photography, embroidery, illustrations, and beyond. No doubt about it, you’ll find yourself endlessly inspired and perhaps leave with a hankering for some redecorating. Meet a few of the 125 artists who are attending the event:
Allison Price
A midwesterner by way of England, Allison draws on her travels and time in the wilderness as inspiration. Her canvas reflects her love of the sea, forest, and the glow of Aurora Borealis — all of which will bring a gorgeous, natural touch to any space.
Felix Burgos
A Brooklyn-born artist, Felix has made a mark in the advertising landscape but has decided to turn his attention towards geometric abstract shapes. Expect his pieces to add a lively pop of color and warmth to any room.
Ji Young Yoon
Though it might’ve taken some time before Ji settled on a career in oil painting — with travels, a chemistry degree, and a fashion degree taking place in between — her journey ultimately inspired the vibrant geometric cityscapes she creates.
Robbie Buten
A self-taught painter using pop culture as his driving force, Robbie’s moody floral-inspired pieces are created with media of acrylic paint and oil pastels.
To top off the experience, there are plenty of fun activations taking place throughout the weekend that seamlessly blend art and entertainment, like machine-free tattoo pop-ups, craft cocktails, and samples of Scott Campbell’s Beboe luxury hemp gummies.
Should you want to learn from the best, you’re in luck. Portrait painter Ben Lenovitz will lead a fantasy drawing experience, OOH Baby will be on hand with 200 painted patches to sew onto personal items, and Zoë Papini will accept the Spring 2025 New Futures Award, which celebrates boundary-breaking artists and provides a free exhibition space for the creator.
