After exploring floors of Gilded Age opulence at The Frick, why not refuel at its debut café, Westmoreland?
Since the Upper East Side institution reopened in April after four years of renovations, guests have been enjoying refurbished reading rooms, the new 220-seat Stephen A. Schwarzman Auditorium, and over 1,800 pieces of work. Wandering through such extensive offerings is bound to make any museum-goer work up an appetite.
The opulent new 50-seat eatery from Selldorf Architects — named in honor of the private Pullman train car the Frick family used beginning in 1911 — received a design overhaul by Bryan O’Sullivan Studio (BOSS) and a bespoke mural by Darren Waterston. Unsurprisingly, it’s just as decadent as you’d imagine.
“As we continue to celebrate the Frick’s grand reopening, we are thrilled to debut the museum’s first-ever café,” said Axel Rüger, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director. “The new amenity helps bring our institution into the twenty-first century, and it will provide our visitors and members with a respite to enjoy conversation about the collection over refined food and beverages.”
Inside the new Frick café
The Danny Meyer-backed Union Square Events is in charge of the bites, focusing on “peak-season produce and hand-selected ingredients from regional farms and purveyors.” Those who are venturing in can expect soups, salads, pastas, and but of course, pastries. (Don’t mind if we do!)
“Westmoreland offers attentive table service to create an experience that feels both intimate and elevated,” said USE’s Vice President of Culinary Operations, Nickolas Martinez. “Our menu takes a one-course approach, with thoughtfully composed plates intended to stand alone.”
The new feature on the second floor is but one new experience visitors have to look forward to. In a few short weeks, the Ronald S. Lauder Exhibition Galleries, a suite of rooms dedicated to special exhibitions that coincide with the attraction’s permanent collections, will open on June 18th. Now there will be even more to discuss when you sit down for a quick bite.
Visitors and members are permitted to make day-of reservations on the cafe’s website.
