It’s a big day for Lower Manhattan! As of March 24th, the doors have officially swung open at The Classroom—a a stunning new 1,200-square-foot community hub located within the Wagner Park Pavilion.
More than just a pretty space, this project is the heart of a revitalized waterfront—designed to bring people together while helping keep the city safe and future-ready, according to a recent press release by Battery Park City Authority.

🎨 A Space for Every Occasion
Whether you’re planning a neighborhood board meeting, an art exhibition, or a birthday party for the kids, The Classroom is built to adapt. The space is fully modular, meaning you can flip the script from a formal lecture to a creative workshop in minutes.
- Seating & Setup: Equipped with 90 chairs, 20 tables, a lectern, and even dedicated children’s furniture.
- Tech-Ready: A built-in AV system featuring ceiling speakers, wireless microphones, a projection screen, and a massive 98-inch monitor.
- Atmosphere: Adjustable lighting allows you to set the mood, from bright and focused to warm and sunset-ready.

🗽 Stunning Views
Situated right on the edge of the Hudson, the floor-to-ceiling vistas offer a front-row seat to the Statue of Liberty.
As evening approaches, the space is flooded with gold as the sun sets over the New Jersey skyline—making it arguably one of the most scenic rental spots in the city.

🌳 Resilience Meets Sustainability
The Classroom is a key piece of the $300 million Wagner Park overhaul. The entire park has been elevated 10 feet to combat rising sea levels, featuring a hidden flood protection system designed to withstand a 100-year storm and protect the area well into the 2050s.
- Eco-Friendly Design: The pavilion is pushing for net-zero carbon certification, utilizing geothermal energy, LED lighting, and recycled materials.
- Water Management: An integrated stormwater reuse system helps the park manage heavy rains naturally.
The opening of The Classroom is just one milestone in the broader $200 million Battery Coastal Resiliency Project. This initiative secures the future for 100,000 residents and 300,000 jobs in Lower Manhattan.
While the rooftop garden is already welcoming visitors, the excitement will continue to build throughout 2026 as a brand-new restaurant prepares to open in the pavilion, stepping into the legendary shoes of the former Gigino.
