Calling all witches and wizards of New York: there is a haven on Stone Street called The Cauldron where you can brew your own elixirs without being bothered by pesky muggles—and they’ve cooked up a particularly enchanting experience for Valentine’s Day!
The Cauldron is a cocktail making experience where visitors get to brew their own cocktail ‘potions.’ Guests are invited to wield magic wands to brew drinkable alcoholic potions (with non-alcoholic options available, too). The creators of this enchanting event have decided to make our favorite fantasy novels and magic lore a reality for New Yorkers through the use of science, technology, and design which they call ‘The Magic of Things.’
The experience initially debuted in NYC as a pop-up called The Cauldron Magical Experience in 2018. After welcoming over 50,000 New Yorkers to the event, they’ve recently created a “Potion Making 2.0” class, set in a mystical indoor forest.
When you arrive you’ll be given a mage robe and magic wand that’ll give you the power to interact with your space like the true wizard you are! Your designated wand will allow you to summon drinks from the tree stump or unicorns, stir liquids, and illuminate cocktails. Their co-founder and molecular mixologist, David Duckworth, adds that there are also “touchable magic mushrooms that emit ultraviolet light for glow in the dark drinks, while real plants glow and sing when stroked.” And now, they’re offering yet another magical experience specifically for Valentine’s Day. On Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14, guests will be able to enjoy a dinner and potion making cocktail experience for two where you’ll be able to take part in the potion class and then have a special three course meal, a glass of Strawberry Mimosa, and The Cauldron’s signature love potion (Damiana’s Charm)! (For tickets to the special evening, click here.)
As a student of the potion class, you’ll make three drinks; the first of which you’ll learn how to summon craft beers from mounted magical creatures. The unique brew you’ll imbibe is a hazy pale ale called “Benevolent Magic” that is made specifically for this experience in collaboration with Sixpoint Brewery and uses ingredients found in magical history such as ginger, lemon peel, and agrimony.
After, you’ll be able to choose two molecular cocktails to create from a wide list of options that range from beginner potions to advanced. Drink names include “Botany Brew,” “The Blood Boiling Curse,” Time. Transfixed,” and “The Spaniard’s Revenge.”
Using molecular mixology, the elixirs you create will change as you make them—whether the change be through color, smoke, or even bubbles!
Classes last an hour and 45-minutes, and the Valentine’s Day experience with three course meal and additional cocktails are selling at $299 for 2. Due to limited space, these tickets for two will sell out fast – so be sure to snag them here soon!
