Team USA entered the 2024 Paris Olympics with a bang, walking in with the most Summer Olympics medals of any country–with 1,070 of those being gold medals. And Team USA has officially received its first gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Athlete Caeleb Dressel anchored the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team to capture Team USA’s first gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Not only is this Dressel’s eighth Olympic gold medal, but, fun fact, it’s also his first Olympic gold medal as a father.
As of Tuesday morning (July 30th), People’s Republic of China is currently sitting in first place in the official Olympic medal table with six golds, five silvers, and two bronze.
Team USA is in sixth with a total of twenty medals–three gold, eight silver, and nine bronze. They’ve been awarded in the following sports:
- Swimming – 2 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze
- Fencing – 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
- Skateboarding – 1 silver, 1 bronze
- Diving – 1 silver
- Mountain Biking – 1 silver
- Cycling (Road) – 1 bronze
- Gymnastics (Artistic) – 1 bronze
Before the 2024 Paris Olympics officially kicked off, analytics company Gracenote predicted that Team USA would finish with the most overall medals–112 to be exact.
