As New Yorkers we typically don’t have a need to step inside car dealerships, but, like many places in NYC, this dealership has a big secret hidden inside its four walls. Beyond the collection of shiny new Genesis vehicles is an oasis full of discovery and relaxation hidden in plain sight, and no driver’s license is required to enjoy it!
The Tea Pavilion at Genesis House is a Tuesday-Sunday spot that invites guests to experience the deeply-rooted traditions and beauty of Korean tea culture, and it’s the perfect little escape from the wrath of NYC winter! Steeped in Korean heritage, the meticulously curated space truly whisks you away to a traditional Korean hanok–right down to the unique roof thatching–but with a modern twist.
During your visit you’ll have the chance to sip on your choice of over 20 unique teas and be guided through the unique rituals that create a one of kind tea ceremony, a peaceful tradition that dates back over 1,300 years. The menu features multiple brewing techniques utilized across three unique tea varieties, which includes everything from Organic Woojeon Korean Green Tea and Organic Iseul Balhyo red tea to Goryeo Wild Chungcha blue tea and Mulberry Leaf, so you can enjoy a variety of exquisite flavors in a peaceful setting.
And what better accompaniment to a relaxing cup of tea is there than delving into a good read? Right near the Tea Pavilion is also the Genesis House library, filled with an array of books celebrating Korean heritage where you can uncover the rich history of Korean architecture or delve into the diversity found in Korean cuisine through books like The Korean Cookbook.
Every detail of the space is truly enriched by thoughtful design.
To steep yourself in relaxation and tradition, set against the backdrop of the Hudson River, visit the Genesis House Tea Pavilion for a relaxing impromptu retreat or reserve a Genesis House Tea Experience for an hour-long, guided journey through unique rituals–either way it’ll be a truly unforgettable experience!
Genesis House is nestled in the heart of New York City’s Meatpacking District. Beyond the Tea Pavilion and Library, the space is also home to the Genesis House Restaurant, where distinctly Korean cuisine is reimagined with a modern take, and the Cellar Stage, which offers soul-nurturing inspiration through a calendar of luminary speakers, haute happenings, and interactive experiences.
Walk-ins are welcome, though you’ll need to book a reservation if you’re interested in the guided tea ritual. See more of the space in our video below:
