Even in the age of COVID-19, it’s still 4th of July in NYC, which means there are still fireworks!
Though many New Yorkers weren’t too pleased about the tradition continuing this year, for factors like cost and disturbance since many neighborhoods have also been experiencing illegal fireworks for weeks, the shows have still gone on. To prevent crowds at one giant display, the city and Macy’s put on “small but mighty” shows all week long across all five boroughs.
The locations were only Tweeted out by Notify NYC less than an hour before the shows would occur (most were between 9 and 10 or 9 and 11). The schedule was:
- Monday, June 29 – LIC, Roosevelt Island, & along the East River in Manhattan / southern Brooklyn and Staten Island
- Tuesday, June 30 – lower Manhattan, northern Staten Island and northern Brooklyn
- Wednesday, July 1 – central Manhattan
- Thursday, July 2 – Bronx Borough Hall between 9 – 10 PM, central Bronx, northern Manhattan and southern Bronx
It appears we still don’t know the location for tonight, July 3, and tomorrow’s display, July 4 is said to culminate with a special show at the Empire State Building (which will surely be lit up in red, white and blue).
In the meantime, if you missed the shows throughout the week, here are some beautiful shots that fully capture them below:
