Dating in NYC is difficult (we know) and this comedy puts it all out there! Strategic Love Play follows two singles on a date after they match on a dating app. It’s only here until December 7th at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre.
The unnamed woman is portrayed by Heléne Yorke (“The Other Two”) and Michael Zegen (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) plays the unnamed man. Yorke’s fast-paced witty humor is philosophical and real. Zegen’s soft approach and reaction to Yorke is a comedic flow that is incredible to see onstage. From the beginning, vibes are off between the two but something unexplainable keeps them from leaving.
The conversations between Yorke and Zegen are a rollercoaster ride. It’s a game of cat and mouse through words but the hunter and prey changes during the play. Although it’s humorous throughout, there are some heart-wrenching and very human moments.
The intimate set design is immaculate and it’s the perfect backdrop throughout the date. The lighting and details of the bar are straight out of an elegant spot in the West Village.
Presented by Audible Theater and Chase This Productions, Strategic Love Play graces NYC with this limited run at Minetta Lane Theatre. The play had a sold-out London run and an acclaimed engagement at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Sign us up for a second date with Strategic Play Love!
Pro Tip: Head to Temperance Wine Bar (located at 40 Carmine St. minutes from the theater) before or after the show. All November long they’re serving up the elegant Strategic Love Play spritz with plum sake in it and it is absolutely delicious!
