In February of this year, The Strand announced they’d be opening a new bookstore location on the UWS in March. However, the pandemic quite literally put a Pause on those plans.
Now, as New York City continues the process of reopening, The Strand is moving ahead and will finally be opening their doors to the public at 450 Columbus Avenue (between 81st and 82nd Streets). According to the company’s announcement on Instagram, the store will officially open at 11am on Wednesday, July 15. The details explain that the store’s hours will be from 11am until 6pm from Tuesdays through Sundays, and goes on to state that “While we can’t give the store the grand opening we originally envisioned, we’re just happy to bring some joy (and some great reads) to the #UWS.”
That said, the shop will be celebrating the opening by offering free totes through July 31st to anyone who spends over $75 at the Columbus Avenue bookstore! Because the store is small, the staff will bring customers their books quickly, but will not be offering holds or curbside pick-ups for the time being.
