Finding wide-open spaces in the city can be tough, but just a short trip away lies a massive open-air sanctuary.
Storm King Art Center is finally waking up for the spring. This 500-acre outdoor museum in the Hudson Valley is the ultimate place to stretch your legs, breathe in some fresh air, and get your culture fix all at once.
A completely reimagined landscape
The sprawling property is officially launching its 2026 season this Sunday, May 17. While the rolling hills and massive permanent sculptures are always a draw, this weekend brings something entirely fresh to the grounds.

Prepare to experience the museum in a completely unexpected way. The season kickoff features three brand-new commissions that blend interactive art with the natural environment.
Stumble upon a hidden ballroom
You can literally walk right into history while wandering the sprawling fields. One of the highly anticipated new exhibits features a stunning concrete Gilded Age ballroom hidden directly in the tall grass.

It is a surreal, immersive discovery that makes you feel like you stepped into a forgotten era. The massive installation plays with the landscape, hiding intricate architectural elements right in plain sight for visitors to find.
Prehistoric culinary pop-ups
You will definitely want to bring your appetite to this art opening. Beyond the visual installations, the new season also introduces incredibly unique prehistoric culinary pop-ups.
This is definitely not your average museum cafe experience. It is a multi-sensory way to engage with the environment.
You can actually taste ingredients and concepts inspired by ancient landscapes while exploring the property.

What to know before you go
📍Storm King is located in New Windsor, NY, which makes for an easy and highly scenic drive from Manhattan. If you do not have a car, you can also easily catch a train or a bus up to the Hudson Valley.
