The Statue of Liberty is not actually green

You know the saying: not everything that shines is made of gold.  But in the case of one national monument, something that shines has turned green! NYC’s favorite lady, The Lady Of Liberty, has had a makeover over the years.  See, the iconic verdigris hue came about accidentally, as a byproduct of carelessness. Here is what the Statue should look like

The Statue of Liberty, as you probably know, is made of copper. However, untreated copper slowly develops a coating called “patina.” This layer actually protects the Statue of Liberty’s copper layer, which is only two pennies thick, from deteriorating. Congress raised money to restore to its original color, but New Yorkers refused! What do you think, are you in for the green, or all over the copper? Comment below!
