For everyone still reeling (and drying their tears) over Noah Kahan’s latest album The Great Divide, we’ve got your prescription for the ultimate summer serotonin boost. Because, let’s face it, it’s much needed.
In other words, it’s time to wash your face, find your favorite flannel, and start planning a trip to the Hudson Valley.
This July 4th weekend, Rolling Stone is stepping off the page and onto the grass with the debut of Stateside, a brand-new festival that promises to be much more than your standard “bands-in-a-field” affair. It’s a curated slice of Americana, and frankly, it’s the best excuse you’ll have all year to drink a cider by a river to the sound of some truly fantastic music.
Here is everything you need to know about the Independence Day party of the summer.
The Lineup: Folk-Rock Royalty and Rising Stars
- Noah Kahan
- Gigi Perez
- Sydney Rose
- Arcy Drive
- Bo Staloch
- Devon Gilfillian
- Michaela Anne
- Calder Allen
- Derby
The Vibe: Kingston and a Historic Birthday
The festival is taking over the Hutton Brickyards in Kingston, New York. If the name sounds industrious, that’s because it is—this site literally supplied the bricks for the Empire State Building. Now, instead of masonry, it’s providing a picturesque backdrop of the Hudson River.
It’s a fitting spot for a July 4th celebration. Kingston was New York’s first capital, and as America stares down its 250th birthday, there’s something poetic about celebrating at a historic landmark.
Expect high-end Americana: think artisanal markets, local food vendors that’ll make you forget all about “festival hot dogs,” and a fireworks display that actually lives up to the hype.
What to Know: The Stateside Experience
- Drink Local: Boston Beer Co. is bringing the heavy hitters (Dogfish Head, Angry Orchard, Sun Cruiser), and word on the street is Dogfish Head is prepping a special product launch just for the fest.
- The “Tailgate Sessions”: Scout Motors is building a “modern Americana garage” on-site. It’s part hangout, part discovery space, and part intimate performance stage.
- A Good Cause: A portion of every ticket sale goes to the BusyHead Project, Noah Kahan’s nonprofit dedicated to ending the stigma around mental health and increasing access to resources. You can enjoy the music and feel like a decent human being at the same time.
