If NASA hasn’t been answering your calls to become their next astronaut, this goosebump-inducing experience is the next best way to embark on a celestial journey! Genesis House is now inviting guests to experience STARSCAPE in NYC, an immersive multi-sensory experience inspired by the celestial wonders of the night sky.
Designer Ethan Tobman (formerly the Creative Director on Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour) draws inspiration from Dongji, the Korean Winter Solstice, to take visitors on an awe-inspiring journey through the longest night of the year–and sure, we’re also inching our way towards our longest day of the year right here in NYC but who’s up for a change of scenery?!
Upon entering, guests will embark on an illuminating sojourn to the celestial wonders of the night sky. From the burning embers of a fire in a Hanok, a traditional Korean home, to glittering stars forming constellations overhead and endless shimmering lights cascading from the ceiling, guests will feel as if they’ve just stepped off of a spaceship though they’re actually right in the heart of the Meatpacking District!
At the center of the experience visitors will witness the progression of the night sky through 590 glowing lights that recreate the constellations which illuminate both Seoul and New York, emphasizing the nightly connection between the two cities–we are, after all, looking up at the same night sky, right?
An explosion of color will eventually mark Dongji coming to a close, eventually placing guests on top of a satellite view of Seoul as visuals of both the New York City and Seoul skylines pass by before the space erupts into darkness once more. The experience is truly giving NASA a run for its money.
And there’s more–beyond the visuals Genesis House Restaurant will also offer guests specialty items throughout the duration of the installation, including creative cocktails such as the BUKDU CHILSEONG, a blend of night sky gin, dry vermouth, maraschino, absinthe, and orange bitters, the CHEONGDO 75 with damson, persimmon, lemon, and sparkling wine, and the STARLIGHT CHOUX, made with apple, jujube, crème chantilly, and starlight craquelin.
Constellation, cocktail…the words are similar enough, right?!
Tobman stated:
Collaborating with Genesis on STARSCAPE has been an inspiring and rewarding experience. Blending my design vision and love for empathetic storytelling with their incredible space allowed us both to create an immersive environment that merges traditional and modern artistry.
