Though the Empire State Building is often lit in a rotation of colors to represent certain holidays or occasions, if you looked to NYC skies last night you may have seen something a bit more extravagant gracing the iconic building’s facade.
In fact, the Empire State Building was no longer on earth, but rather entered into another galaxy as scenes of your most favorite and most loathed characters from Star Wars took over the entire scale of the 1,250 foot landmark.
The Empire State Building along with Disney Parks teased the illusion to Instagram prior to last night, as Hayden Christensen (aka Anakin Skywalker) himself even made a visit to New York City. The efforts were in preparation for Star Wars fanatics’ favorite holiday, May 4th. Plus, the Empire State Building will host an extra special screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back tonight, Friday, March 22nd. The ticketed event also grants access to the 86th and 102nd Floor Observatories.
Prior to last night’s display, the Empire State Building most recently glittered green with the colors of the Irish flag in the mast for St. Patrick’s Day. Upcoming on the Empire State Building lighting calendar is a blackout period on March 23rd from 8:30pm-9:30pm in observance of Earth Hour. Find the full lighting schedule here.
