NYC’s new Instagrammable art installation, “Star Light Star Bright”, is as sentimental as it is picturesque.
The project from design studio Hou de Sousa has found at home downtown at 140 Broadway, and welcomes New Yorkers to stop by and set their hopes aglow. Using inspiration from cultural wish trees, Hou de Sousa created a large star with 1,200 colorful chains lining its steel frame and asks those passing by to tie a wish ribbon on one of its 75,000 links. Eventually the layers of colorful ribbons will expand, and it will give off a fluorescent chia pet vibe.
As you gear up for 2025, make New Year’s Eve plans, and mull over resolutions, “Star Light Star Bright” asks you to dig deep to uncover what it is you want for the next 365 days ahead. Feel free to think of something original or opt for a pre-printed wish from one of the local partners that worked alongside the design house, including City Blossoms, Barclay Rex Pipe Shop, and Century 21, to name just a few. It’s entirely up to you!
If you want to get in on seasonal fun (including snacks and live music), stop by the exhibit on Wednesdays in December at lunchtime for a celebratory afternoon from noon to 2pm. And of course, you’ll be able to reveal your wish. The events are as follows:
Wednesday, December 4th
Refreshments: La Parisienne
Live music: New York Collective featuring Alphonso Horne
Wednesday, December 11th
Refreshments: Simpl Coffee
Live music: New York Collective featuring Gina Soto
Wednesday, December 18th

We can’t wait to see how everything turns out at the end of the project! We wish your wish comes true. Learn more at downtownny.com.
