It’s known all over, but among her numerous titles, Rihanna is a trendsetter. From music to fashion, she’s known for creating waves that everyone follows.
Back in 2017, the soon-to-be mother of two did an iconic photoshoot with Paper Magazine to accompany her cover story of their March issue.
The shoot, captured by Sebastian Faena, took place at what is now known as Star Food Mart & Deli on Avenue C and Fourth Street. Photos captured Rihanna playing the Lotto, eating a Mamaita icee, and posing behind the counter – all things quintessential to the authentic New York experience.
Since then, Star Food Mart & Deli has been a hot spot for people looking to create their own content and even curate events. In a chat with EV Grieve last week, employees said that they have been on “a list” for photoshoots.
That demand includes pop-up shops too!
Last week UK-based streetwear line, Corteiz hosted a pop-up shop at the store. Donning the name Corteiz Mart & Deli for the day, the store was designed and curated for a highly anticipated drop for the brand’s Nike Air Max 95 collab.
Shoppers with the designated wristband were allowed inside one at a time and given a “true deli experience” by getting to purchase their sneakers through the plexiglass window.
Star Food Deli & Mart’s actual employees were a part of the experience working from the events beginning up until the final purchase at 5:30.
Support local businesses by adding Star Food Deli & Mart to your list for future photoshoots and events!
