A step back into the Gilded Age

Spring Lake is famous for its pristine, family-friendly beaches, but the waters hold a bit of wild history. In July 1916, a tragic shark attack occurred off the Spring Lake coast. This infamous wave of Jersey Shore attacks is widely believed to have inspired the lore behind the blockbuster movie Jaws.
If you prefer staying firmly on land, the town is a runner’s paradise. It hosts the annual Spring Lake 5 Mile Run. What started in 1977 has grown into the country’s largest 5-mile race, drawing over 10,000 runners to the beachfront every year.
