New Yorkers have never exactly been chill when it comes to limited-edition merch. So when the city’s official $50 FIFA World Cup jerseys dropped last Friday, they vanished in under an hour—almost as fast as match tickets themselves.
If you missed your shot the first time around, we have some good news: Mayor Zohran Mamdani has officially confirmed that a second batch is on the way, giving soccer fans, collectors, and anyone looking to flex a little hometown pride another chance to snag one before they’re gone again.
Here’s what you need to know about the wildly popular jerseys and how to secure one before they disappear again.
Why are these $50 jerseys driving NYC wild?
The custom jerseys are a joint project between the Mayor’s Office and Mazzi Sports, a legendary, family-owned apparel studio based in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Designed by illustrator Arsh Raziuddin, the jerseys capture a distinct, retro-graphic style celebrating the five boroughs. They feature:
- A soccer ball-inspired Big Apple logo emblazoned over the heart
- A classic NYC pigeon sitting opposite the logo
- “NEW YORK CITY” stamped across the chest with the number “26” on the back
They come in three distinct, hyper-local colorways: black and white, yellow and black, and blue and orange-y red.
According to Mazzi Sports founder Alexander Campaz in an interview with Inc., the colors are a direct nod to the city’s pulse: yellow and black stripes for our iconic taxis, blue and orange-y red for the Knicks, and black and white stripes with blue lettering to honor Gotham FC.

A budget-friendly savior for local fans, sold out in under an hour
The absolute biggest driver of the hype? The price tag.
At just $50, these handmade jerseys were deliberately offered as a budget-friendly alternative to the official FIFA World Cup NY-NJ jersey, which retails for a steep $375.
Mayor Mamdani told GQ that the goal was keeping the tournament accessible to everyday residents:
Jerseys represent more than just the team you support. They are about pride in where you come from… We are offering New Yorkers an affordable jersey made for New Yorkers, by New Yorkers.
The strategy worked a little too well.
For the first drop of 1,500 shirts, lines outside the NYC City Store at One Centre Street began forming as early as 1 am. The queue quickly snaked around nearby courthouses, down streets, and stretched over half a mile long by the time doors opened at 9 am.
Within minutes, the entire stock was gone–and the resale market exploded. Scalpers immediately listed them on eBay, with bidding wars driving prices anywhere from $475 up to a staggering $1,000.

When is the next drop?
If you refuse to pay a 2,000% markup to a reseller, you won’t have to.
Mayor Mamdani explicitly warned scalpers that their marketplace monopoly is short-lived because the city is actively working with Mazzi Sports to manufacture more inventory. Mamdani stated on Monday
If you’re New Yorkers interested in this, know that you don’t have to pay $1,000 on eBay.
The Catch: While the city has guaranteed a second release is happening, the exact drop date, location, and total inventory numbers are still under wraps. Officials say those details will be shared “very soon.”
