Sofar Sounds teamed up with Fever to present a series of exclusive concerts in neighborhoods across NYC, and we had the chance to attend the first concert of the series on March 29th! We weren’t quite sure what to expect since the lineup was kept under wraps, but it turned out to be a soothing evening at the heart of Sofar Sounds offices in Chinatown. Keep reading for our review!

Booking our tickets
Securing the spots to our first Sofar concert, we couldn’t help but feel a bit apprehensive. Thankfully, the process was straightforward: we selected our concert and were informed we’d receive key details about the show a day before. We got insight into whether food would be available onsite, if the venue was indoors or outdoors, and all other accessibility options. Not knowing the lineup of artists was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but once we arrived at the venue, our apprehension quickly turned into excitement. We couldn’t wait to uncover which 3 artists would be taking the stage!
Finding out who would be performing
We genuinely felt like members of a secret club (and you know we love secrets)! Seeing artists take the stage one by one allowed us to fully focus on each performer as they transported us into their world. Since Sofar only features 3 main artists at each concert with no headliners, we gave our undivided attention to every performer equally — and they did not disappoint. Each artist ignited the stage, encouraging us to clap along, sing along, and fully engage with the music.
We made some friends!
As the music took over our senses, we started feeling united with everyone in the room. Maybe it’s the small, intimate setting, but we noticed every unexpected glance as the next artist took the stage, every head bop, and every applause at the end of each song. The lights seemed brighter, the music more electrifying… everything felt intensified. We exchanged a few smiles, feeling a connection grow with each person in the room — as if we were all brought together to this secret spot for a purpose. Us? Sentimental? Guilty as charged.
The post-concert experience
A few hours afterwards, we got an email from Sofar Sounds with the names of the performers we had seen that evening, along with ways to keep in touch with them. That feeling when you have an artist’s name on the tip of your tongue, or when you can’t recall the title of a song but have the melody stuck in your head? Yeah, it was great to have Sofar check in, allowing us to follow the artists we enjoyed and download the tunes we’d been wanting to save.
To conclude
Our first Sofar concert was an experience we would absolutely love to repeat. It was refreshing to step away from the large-scale concerts and instead enjoy music in an intimate setting surrounded by other lovers of the art. We highly recommend adding it to your NYC bucket list!
