Two adorable snowy owls have officially flown their way to the Bronx Zoo–a six-year-old female and a maturing juvenile male. And it’s only fitting to introduce the owls during their favorite season: winter!
The pair can be seen in the zoo’s Birds of Prey exhibit, which includes falcons, eagles, owls, vultures, condors, and more. The exhibit is “a place to learn about the winged hunters and scavengers who play vital roles in our planet’s ecosystems.”
The owls’ keepers stated:
The female is known for being quite fierce, and the male has a shy disposition and is still getting used to his surroundings after his transfer from another AZA zoo in New York. However, the only thing he loves more than mice are naps up high on his perch!
Considering the Bronx Zoo is arguably the most famous zoo in NYC, it’s only fitting the owl pair makes their home there! The zoo welcomes over 2 million visitors annually and, at 265-acres, it’s the largest urban zoo in America and one of the largest in the country.
The Bronx Zoo is home to over 4,000 animals of more than 700 species. Some of its most popular attractions include the Bug Carousel, JungleWorld, Nature Trek, and Congo Gorilla Forest. And, lucky for us, they’re constantly welcoming new animals and exhibits, like the adorable Baby Tree Kangaroo that made its debut appearance in July of this year!
While you’re there be sure to check out the zoo’s Holiday Lights Show with 400+ animal lanterns across 100+ species glittering through the night now through January 5th, 2025.
Oh, and if you’re feeling a bit cheeky don’t forget that each year the zoo allows you to name a roach after your ex for Valentine’s Day, which is quite possibly our favorite way to celebrate the holiday!
