Over here at Secret NYC we’re not unfamiliar with unique eats–Honey Badger, one of NYC’s most interesting restaurants and one of our favs, is serving cured jellyfish and pine cones over in Brooklyn (do NOT knock it til you try it!). And this airline is hopping on the bandwagon, serving its passengers much more than your average Biscoff cookie and ginger ale.
EasyJet has recently unveiled a rather out-of-the-box in-flight menu of eats–on the menu: snail and garlic ice cream. The pungent nosh is quite the creation, a sweet and salty pairing, if you will. It was described as a “snail-infused garlic ice cream with crunchy pieces to give a ‘snail shell’ effect inspiring people to take off to Paris,” and was actually mistaken as an April Fools Day joke when the airline handed it out to those attending the celebration its new base at London Southend Airport, according to BBC.
The airline’s new base at London Southend is now home to three EasyJet aircraft, serving 122 flights per week on 20 routes from Southend to destinations across Europe and North Africa. So if you’re paying our friends across the pond a visit and decide to jet off to a second destination, you can try the ice cream for yourself!
The snail and garlic ice cream is among five fearless flavors giving a nod to the different destinations EasyJet is now flying to. Other flavors include the following:
- Spicy Tagine (Morocco – Marrakech) with apricots and Moroccan spices throughout
- Sangria and Chocolate (Spain – Alicante, Almeria, Gran Caria, Malaga, Palma, Reus, Tenerife) blending fruity sangria flavors with rich chocolate
- Pastel de Nata (Portugal – Faro) a Portuguese custard tart
- Cacio e Pepe (Italy – Pisa) a blend of lemon zest, parmesan, and cracked black pepper
EasyJet holidays CEO, Garry Wilson, stated:
Southend is synonymous with ice-cream, and what better way to celebrate our newest base than with something that for many also represents the joy of holidays, by offering customers a literal taste of their next trip.
If you’re adventurous enough to try the snail and garlic ice cream, just maybe pack a toothbrush in your carry on so you can sneak into the bathroom and brush your teeth after consuming. Or actually, who cares, rock that garlic breath! Maybe it will mask the smell of everyone farting since apparently medical experts say you should let those farts rip on airplanes…
