Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is bringing a whole new meaning to the term adventurous travel! The airline recently launched an exhilarating new flight experience, called “Destination Unknown,” that lets passengers book tickets prior to knowing their destination. Passengers will only find out where they have ventured to once the plane touches down at the mystery destination.
The most recent mystery journey that will fly out of Copenhagen in April was offered to EuroBonus members only. Thousands of people signed up to score a seat on the plane, with not a clue where it would take them, all within the first hour of the launch.
“I am thrilled about this innovative concept, and I am confident that, just like me, a lot of travelers are excited by the idea of an unknown destination,” said Paul Verhagen, EVP & Chief Commercial Officer at SAS. “The prospect of embarking on an adventurous and mysterious journey with fellow enthusiasts, finding new connections and friendships along the way, is truly exciting. SAS equals trust and quality and promises our passengers an adventure that will bring their travel experience to a new level. These are not just trips; they are extraordinary journeys that will stay with you for a lifetime.”
The April journey from Copenhagen will be a three night trip, leaving on April 5 and returning April 8, 2024. Though this trip has been entirely booked up (and we won’t know where it’s going until the passengers themselves do), you can keep your eyes peeled online for the next opportunity to join SAS for “Destination Unknown” in the future.
Another airline, Wizz Air, launched a similar concept with their #LetsGetLostwithWIZZ campaign that recently took 35 winners on an all-expenses-paid trip from London to a mystery destination that turned out to be Antayla, Turkey. You can watch the experience of a passenger here.
