It’s a bittersweet day for New York City shoppers and fashion enthusiasts alike, as Saks Off Fifth has officially announced that its beloved NYC flagship store will be closing its doors for good on New Year’s Eve.
The discount luxury retailer, known for offering high-end designer labels at more accessible prices, has been a favorite destination for savvy shoppers seeking deals on premium brands.
For years, the flagship has stood as a go-to shopping spot for both locals and visitors looking to score designer finds without the designer price tag.
The company has emphasized that these closures are a strategic move designed to strengthen the brand’s long-term position.

The NYC closure is sadly not alone, it’s being joined by closures in Austin, Texas, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Franklin Mall in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh North (McKnight Road), Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, East Hanover, New Jersey, Niagara Falls, New York and West Hartford, Connecticut.
Saks Off Fifth has faced mounting challenges in recent years as shifting consumer habits, the rise of e-commerce, and changing market conditions have reshaped the retail industry. In a recent statement, the company said:
“We are confident this will better position the Saks Off 5th business for long-term success and look forward to continuing to deliver for our customers.”
