Popular birdwatching account, Manhattan Bird Alert, recently took to X to share the upsetting news that Rover, the beloved bald eagle that has been spotted soaring over the Central Park Reservoir and other areas of the city, has passed away following a car collision.
We received some sad news, that beloved Rover the bald eagle died today from being struck by a vehicle on the Henry Hudson Parkway while he was attempting to scavenge a small mammal.
The adored bird was always identifiable by his R-7 metal ankle tag that he received in his hatch-year in 2018. Just last month, birdwatchers caught Rover flying around the city and hunting gulls.
