With temperatures gearing up to reach into the 90s tomorrow it’s a perfect time for Roosevelt Island’s waterfront Manhattan Park Pool to return with yet another stunningly colorful mural on its pool deck!
Each year since 2015, K&CO Design and Pliskin Architecure have worked with the Manhattan Park residential complex to create a colorful, pop-up art installation on the blank slate of deck surrounding the Manhattan Park Pool, transforming the space into a vibrant artistic experience. A different emerging artist is commissioned each year, and the pool’s unveiling has become an eagerly-anticipated summer staple in NYC.
Past years have showcased the work of artists such as HOTTEA, Elizabeth Sutton, Melissa Dadourian, and Hratch Arbach. This year’s iteration, ‘Waves of Joy,’ is designed by Parisian artist Meri Karapetyan. The artwork is an explosion of colors and organic shapes inspired by nature and water–perfect for a pool that’s situated right beside the East River!
The piece reflects water’s fluid and dynamic patterns, along with the movement of leaves and the summer sun. And being the pool deck is 8,000 square feet, this year’s mural took 14 days and 26 gallons of paint to bring to life! Karapetyan stated:
This mural is not just about decoration; it’s an invitation to reconnect with nature and embrace the lightness of the present moment, making the pool a true gathering spot filled with happiness and positivity.
Considering its vibrant and energetic aesthetic, we can already expect our Instagram feeds to be flooded with photos of NYers soaking up the sun at the 60-foot pool–especially considering it offers sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline!
Manhattan Park is an 8.5-acre luxury waterfront rental community on the Roosevelt Island waterfront promenade. It’s surrounded by luscious landscaped grounds and stunning NYC skyline views, making it the perfect place to spend a warm summer’s day. Jodi Stasse, EVP of the exclusive marketing agent for the community, stated:
The tradition of artists transforming the pool deck at Manhattan Park every summer has become a cornerstone of the community’s identity. Meri Karapetyan’s piece brings a refreshing and inspiring brightness to the space, which is shared by both Manhattan Park residents and Roosevelt Island visitors alike.
