Have you ever heard of the Trapizzino? No? Well read on, because soon it’ll be an NYC favorite.
What do you call a snack that is somewhere between a sandwich and a pizza? A Pizwich? …A Sandza? Wrong! This handheld bite is called a Trapizzino, and it’s coming to the Lower East Side soon.
Trapizzino, which is the name of the restaurant as well as the snack, has been the Italian capital’s “go-to” street food from when it first appeared in 2008. Since then the chain has spread all over Rome and also Japan. The NYC chapter of Trapizzino will open at 144 Orchard Steet, and bring this low cost, authentic Roman food to a wider US audience.
So what exactly is a Trapizzino? It’s like a pizza pocket sandwich. A spongy triangular Pizza Dough pocket filled with authentic Italian ingredients. Check out some examples below:
