Time to put away the tinsel — the holiday party is officially over.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree removal will begin this weekend, ushering NYC out of the Christmas season and into winter 2025. If you’ve yet to make your way to Midtown to catch the dazzling spectacle — we get it, the crowds are no joke — now’s the time to make a move.
The Massachusetts Norway Spruce will go dark on Saturday, January 11th at 10pm, kickstarting the removal process. Though we’ve said our favorite time to visit the tree during the season is near dawn, you’re going to have to make some adjustments in order to catch it.
This year’s beaut was the first tree to hail from Massachusetts in 65 years, courtesy of the Albert family in West Stockbridge. As is tradition, the New England transplant (see what we did there?) was decked out in 50,000 LED lights and topped with a Swarovski crystal star.
Given that 2024 was the city’s second-most visited year in history, we’re confident that even more people got to experience the magic of the Rockefeller Center tree — and we’re confident that it’s all the more reason to take a gander before it’s gone.
Once the iconic greenery is taken out of Rockefeller Center, it will be milled into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity, a custom that has been taking place since 2007.
