The 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is officially on its way, and we now have the dates New Yorkers need to know for the tree’s arrival and the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting. So yes, you can officially start making those holiday plans.
The famous Norway spruce will arrive at Rockefeller Center on Saturday, November 7, 2026 giving New Yorkers a chance to welcome it during Meet the Tree Day. Then, on Wednesday, December 2, 2026, the tree will officially light up Rockefeller Plaza, kicking off the 2026 holiday season in NYC.
We’re still waiting to find out exactly where this year’s tree is coming from, how tall it will be, who donated it, and who will take the stage for the televised lighting ceremony. But the calendar dates are officially on our radar.
Here’s everything we know so far about the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree:
🎄 When will the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrive?
The 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is scheduled to make its grand entrance into Midtown Manhattan on Saturday, November 7.
As per tradition, the highly anticipated arrival will coincide with Meet the Tree Day, a festive event that gives visitors a chance to welcome the massive Norway spruce to Rockefeller Plaza as it begins its transformation into one of the most famous Christmas trees in the world.
The tree’s arrival is one of those very New York holiday moments: a giant spruce makes its way into Midtown before being hoisted into place by crane, where it’ll spend the next few weeks getting decked out in thousands of multi-colored lights and topped with its iconic Swarovski star.

🗓️ When is the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony?
The world-famous tree lighting ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2026.
The annual event is one of the biggest Christmas traditions in NYC. It’s the magical moment when the switch is flipped, the 900-pound Swarovski star sparkles to life with 3 million crystals, and the holiday season officially kicks off in New York City.
The ceremony is historically broadcast live on NBC, featuring a massive lineup of celebrity hosts and musical performances.
✨ What do we know about the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree?
Not a whole lot–yet.
Rockefeller Center has not released the tree’s exact height, hometown, age, or donor, so we’re still waiting for the juicy details.
For reference, the 2025 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree was a 75-foot-tall Norway spruce from East Greenbush, New York. It weighed approximately 11 tons and was decorated with more than 50,000 LED lights.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree tradition dates back to 1931, when construction workers at Rockefeller Center put up a 20-foot balsam fir. The first official tree lighting ceremony followed in 1933.
So while we don’t know what this year’s tree will look like just yet, we do know it has some very big shoes—or branches—to fill.

🎅 What happens after the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrives?
Once the tree is in place, the countdown to the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting begins.
Visitors will be able to see the tree throughout the holiday season, with The Rink at Rockefeller Center offering the quintessential NYC Christmas experience: skating beneath the illuminated tree in the heart of Midtown.
The Rink’s 2026–27 season begins October 10, 2026, meaning you’ll be able to lace up your skates before the Christmas tree even arrives.
And once the tree is lit, Rockefeller Center becomes one of the busiest stops on any Christmas in NYC itinerary, with ice skating, holiday decorations, Fifth Avenue shopping, and the city’s famous holiday attractions all within walking distance.

🎄 When can I see the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree?
You don’t have to attend the actual lighting ceremony to see the tree.
After the December 2, 2026 lighting, the illuminated Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be on display throughout the holiday season, giving New Yorkers and visitors plenty of opportunities to stop by, snap a photo and soak up some of that classic NYC Christmas magic.
