This year marks the 21st anniversary of the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show and the theme is fashion! We checked out The Orchid Show: Florals In Fashion to celebrate spring and below are just a few of the reasons we loved it. Be sure to visit the Orchid Show soon, before it ends on April 21st!
1) We Loved the Orchids of course!
New York Botanical Gardens is tranquil and filled with beauty. The Orchid Show magnifies this beauty by focusing on a single plant. Thousands of orchids from around the world sit side by side at the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Orchids can be found in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Americas and you can see plenty of them from each region at NYBG! Don’t miss this year’s Orchid Show which is only here until April 21st!
2) The theme of fashion was everything.
When you enter the space of the observatory, you’re instantly greeted with orchid covered mannequins dressed in the most impeccable flower-forward fashion! The Orchid Show: Florals In Fashion showcases elaborate dresses to hair pieces and even a unique orchid puffer coat! Throughout the space mannequins are decked out in some incredible fashions through a variety of orchids!
Three incredible designers are featured, Collina Strada, a fashion designer who promotes climate and social awareness, Hillary Taymour and Dauphinette, an upcycled fashion label which uses preserved botanicals and repurposed materials, by Olivia Cheng. This year’s show certainly lives up to its name and it’s not to be missed!
3) The escape is real.
For those of us who don’t live in The Bronx, it might be a trek to go to the New York Botanical Garden, located at 2900 Southern Blvd. but it is absolutely worth it! (Don’t miss out on a slice from nearby Rocco’s Pizza while you’re there!) Once you pass the gates of the NYBG, the hustle and bustle of the city melts away instantly!
The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory is a beautiful glass building. As soon as you step inside, the warmth of the tropical, moist environment that orchids thrive in, hits you. The transformation of the spaces throughout the conservatory is nothing short of enchanting. The arrangements and seeing orchids as fashion statements makes this year’s Orchid Show truly fabulous!
4) You can enjoy the Orchid Show after hours too!
If you think the Orchid Show is beautiful during the day you should check out “Orchid Nights.” For guests 21+ you can enjoy the experience after dark with music, food and drinks on select dates! From 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 30; Friday, April 5; Saturday, April 6; Friday, April 12; Saturday, April 13; Friday, April 19; and Saturday, April 20, 2024, Orchid Nights will be in full swing!
Also throughout March and April, there are Orchid-themed classes. Delve into everything from orchid photography to sculpting orchid headpieces and so much more! For a full list of remaining classes, go here!
5) The Stuff…the really cute stuff!
The Orchid show is all about the experience, being one with nature and immersing yourself into the tropical environment of this wondrous plant. But there’s also a super cute online shop inspired by this year’s show! From beautiful pieces of orchid printed stationary and books to shirts, bags and socks, you could rep this plant all spring long! There’s even premium food for all the orchid parents out there!
