Didn’t score Coachella tickets? Don’t worry–you don’t need to trek to the desert to witness Radiohead’s latest masterpiece.
The “Motion Picture House featuring Kid A Mnesia” is Radiohead’s massive new immersive installation taking over a 17,000-square-foot bunker at the festival.
After debuting at Coachella, the large-scale audiovisual experience is heading on a strictly limited city tour–and New York City is its first major stop.
From Virtual Dream to Physical Reality
Originally envisioned as a physical installation before pivoting to a virtual experience during the pandemic, Motion Picture House featuring Kid A Mnesia brings the project to life as Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood intended: massive, in-person, and deeply unsettling.
At its core is a 75-minute film built from artwork created by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood during the making of Kid A and Amnesiac. The visuals are paired with newly remixed audio from the original multitracks, designed specifically for a custom six-point surround sound system.
Beyond the film, the experience expands into full gallery spaces showcasing large-scale works from that same era–essentially turning two of Radiohead’s most iconic albums into something you can physically walk through.
Yorke describes the narrative as one where “a monster is trapped in a derelict museum of the lost & forgotten,” setting the tone for what’s been called a gorgeous, unsettling, and deeply atmospheric journey.
What to Expect
Each visit is booked in a two-hour time slot, which includes:
- A 75-minute audiovisual film
- Extra time to explore the surrounding gallery spaces at your own pace
There’s no traditional seating–guests can roam through the space freely, making it feel more like an immersive art installation than a standard screening.
