9,000 riders will have a wrench thrown in their daily commute beginning this January thanks to the A Train service shutdown, but that’s not the only train running into issues this month.
Brooklyn R train riders will also have to deal with service disruptions as the MTA suspends late-night service on the R line.
R train service will be suspended from 11:30 pm Friday to 5:30 am Monday beginning this weekend–January 3rd through 6th–and again on January 10th to 13th. During this time, the train won’t run between the 36th Street and 95th Street stations.
The suspension is due to structural maintenance, according to officials.
State Senator Andrew Gounardes shared the announcement on Twitter, adding that, during these disruptions, free shuttle buses will make all R line stops between 36th Street and 95th Street. Beyond the shuttle bus, straphangers are encouraged to use alternative routes for nearby stops.
The MTA recommends New Yorkers opt for the following travel alternatives:
- For 45th Street and 53rd Street – take the Coney Island-bound N or free shuttle buses
- For 59th Street – take the N or the free shuttle buses
So while this is bad news for night owls that rely on the R train in Brooklyn, we will take all the structural maintenance we can get considering the MTA recently voted in approval to raise the subway fare to $3.
