Queens Comfort. Known for their cheesy comfort foods and delicious brunch. Now, also known for their doughnuts.
Earlier this year, Queens Comfort made a move into a larger restaurant space only a few blocks away from their original location. However, instead of getting rid of the cozy and kitschy original space, the owner, Donnie D’Alessio, has decided to turn it into a doughnut shop called Comfortland!
The shop is colorful and bright with a lunch counter and substantial seating. Inside is a mural of fun cartoon creatures by Kevin Lyons, but most of the original toys and decor have been removed from the space.
The grand opening is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2, but it’s currently open for you to check it out at discounted prices during limited hours! Enjoy cake doughnuts made by Montana D’Alessio (the owner’s sister), and yeast doughnuts made by her baking partner Jackie Legge.
Doughnuts include a Chocolate Bomb, which is stuffed with chocolate pudding and topped with chocolate icing, cookie crumbs, chocolate chunks, and Nesquick powder; and Arnold Palmer, which is covered in both iced tea as well as lemonade glaze.
During the limited preview days, everything in the shop costs $2. Once open, however, prices will range from $2 to $4 per doughnut. The menu will certainly grow and change, but you can expect the crazy Queens Comfort combinations to roll over into the doughnut shop! (Think pop rocks on doughnuts and Trashcan Cinnabons). Aside from sweets you’ll also be able to order the McGruffin, which is a huge breakfast sandwich with tomato jam, herb aioli, sausage patty, and Grafton cheddar cheese all on a homemade butter milk biscuit.
After the grand opening on October 2, the shop will be open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. Until then it is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
